It’a actually called "Reciprocity" or may be called "endorsement" in some states. Most states accept out of state licensure, but a several years ago, there were states who wouldn’t accept licensure from ALL states, just some. It depends on the educational requirements where the license was obtained. Yes, call the CA state board of nursing. I did my reciprocity from MN to WI online, and actually got my license for WI in about 2.5 weeks–that was quick, but I had been on the WI registry in 1992 so they already had info on me.
